The Blue Jays scored 3 in 11th to get past the Dodgers

Daulton Varsho hit two doubles in the 11th inning and Whit Merrifield added four as the visiting Toronto Blue Jays cruised to a 6-3 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a three-game series on Monday night.

Matt Chapman hit a home run for the Blue Jays, which ended a five-game losing streak against the Dodgers. Toronto had also lost eight of its previous nine games against Los Angeles

Jason Heyward hit a home run for the Dodgers but also let 11th-inning player Varsho run past him attempting a diving catch as Los Angeles dropped its series opener for the first time in the second half.

Max Muncy hit a tying home run in the eighth inning for Los Angeles, which was playing its first home game since July 8 after going 6-3 on a three-city road trip after the All-Star break.

Varsho’s double came from right-hander Dodgers Phil Bickford (2-3), who also succumbed to a full-loaded move to Bo Bichette in the 11th minute. Blue Jays right hand Jay Jackson (3-0) hits a pair of scoreless innings while left-hander Jordan Romano gets his 28th save

The Blue Jays led their first game 3-2 in the eighth inning when Chapman hit two home runs into right center field, his 13th. Muncy responded with a burst to center right, his 25th and third in three games

The Dodgers opened up a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single from Muncy. Heyward makes it 2-0 in the fourth inning with his 10th home run, one more than his total from the last two seasons with the Chicago Cubs

The Blue Jays leveled at 2-2 in the fifth inning on RBI singles from Kevin Kiermaier and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Dodgers starter Michael Grove gave up two runs at eight hits for 4 2/3 no-go innings and six strikes. Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios gave up two runs on five hits over five innings with four walks and three strikeouts

The Dodgers are no designated hitter JD Martinez (hamstring), while the Blue Jays are without catcher Danny Jansen (forearm)
